Peter Walker Date: March 18, 2012 Time: 2:30pm Peter Walker, local pianist, presents "Drama in Music" Peter and his wife recently moved to the valley in July 2010 from Calgary. Mr. Walker spent many years teaching in the Calgary High Schools and private piano lessons. While in Calgary, Peter was very active in a music performance group. Now in retirement, he has found time to focus on preparing a wonderful concert. Peter was born and raised in Lethbridge, Alberta where he began his musical training - studying piano, performing in festivals and taking examinations. He achieved four Silver Medals in pursuit of the ARCT and Associate Diploma (Western Board, U. of Alberta) in Solo Piano Performance. He presently holds a M.Educ. from the University of Calgary, specializing in composition of music for schools. He performed regularly on CBC radio as a recitalist, and was featured in the CBC Talent Festival with the CBC Symphony in Vancouver performing the Prokofieff Piano Concerto No. 3. "Over the years, learning major works for this wonderful instrument, the piano, has been a happy and very rewarding experience for me… Through the music, it is exciting to be transported to other times, other places, and to the feelings of the composers – to catch their sense of wonder and awe… I hope that my audience will join me in feeling the excitement and drama - even joy that is present in these great works." Not only was Carter the youngest competitor, but he advanced to the finals and came home with a total prize money of $4,500.
